The Plot
American Beauty is a dark comedy about family chaos in suburbia. This deep movie starring Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening has changed the mind frames of many around the world. Kevin Spacey plays a middle aged man who is looking to wake up from his comatose state of life. His life is turned upside down as the movie lives a plot of a twisted life in which we can find affairs, fantasies, sex, and above all beauty. The life of Lester Burnam is thrown out the window, but he is willing to start over from day one. | |
Review
This was the most amazing movie of 1999. After being discovered in the Toronto film festival it was deemed adequate for theaters. Such dramas have enormous impacts on people, and this movie was a perfect example of that. This film received 5 academy awards. That's an outrageous amount, but they were well deserved. American Beauty does have a few segments that are found to be a bit "off colour" but they all add to the overall impression of the movie. The true meaning is brought out by character Ricky Fitts (Wes Bently). His character is one reason why the film such a deep and motivational experience. This movie was definitely among the best of the year, and showed it at the academy awards show. | |
