The Plot

Moulin Rouge is a love story about a poor writer and a prostitute dreaming of being a real actress. The writer believes that love is the oxygen of life, but has never experienced it himself. He believes that a life without love, isn't a life at all. The prostitute, Satine, mistakes the writer for a Duke willing to invest in a production that would be held at the Moulin Rouge and would make Satine the star. The writer is invited up into Satine’s room and they fall in love immediatly. The mix up of the two men is sorted out slowly and with horrible timing causing Satine to cover up the truth with lies. After finding out the plot of the play (a poor man falls in love with a beautiful women who is forced seduce a different, richer man, but ends up falling in love with the poor man) The Duke then agrees to invest in the show, and receives the deeds to Moulin Rouge, and Satine. The agreement is made and signed for, but throughout the rest of the film there is constant conflict going on between the writer and Satine, and the Duke slowly unraveling the truth as they attempt to create more reasons for being together.
Review

Moulin Rouge was an excellent film based on the strong hold of true love. This movie had an excellent plot with the theme of forbidden love. The movie was great with many bright colours, and a lot of motion making the eyes follow the screen’s quick movements. This movie was great, but did not pick up until about twenty minutes into the movie. The first half hour or so is dreadfully long and hard to stand, but once you get into the love theme the movie has to offer, you become consumed by the movie's thick plot line. The characters do a great job of absorbing the audience into the suspenseful love story woven into the lives of the characters. The play has dramatic irony, which also gives suspense to the viewers, because of the knowledge that we bestow and the characters do not.
